As i reflect on Mothers day today, when many of us are staying at home due to Covid -19 ,I think of a widow named Salome who is jobless and has a disability at the same time raising two young beautiful girls on her own, its called "the strength of a woman"
Salome is a widow with two girls, she has been staying at home for the past 4years after she was paralyzed both legs.
Salome can no longer stand or walk on her own ,her two daughters would carry her whenever she needed to move from place to place, This meant that Salome would spent much of her time at home confined to her bed.
When we donated to Salome her first wheelchair on Mothers day she cried and her two daughters were grateful not just because it would help make their life easier but because it would allow them to take Salome out and participate in more activities like going to enjoy the warmth of the morning sun.
Thank you for helping us to give Salome her first gift of mobility .
We are grateful for you and we keep you in our prayers.
Then it was Salome's turn to break into tears.
"Thank you very much for supporting us in our difficulties "said Salome in a quivering voice expressing sincere gratitude with a two handed handshake ."now i can get around in a wheelchair:
Frank is 13yrs old and he has been very lucky to receive not only a wheelchair but also a Utulav toilet. He was born a normal child used to play and run with his peer but all that changed when he was 5yeras ,his body became weak and was diagnosed with spinal bifida.
Franks single mother was afraid his son will not walk again and couldn't afford to buy a wheelchair or rather pay for franks regular therapy sessions .
Ever since Frank has been crawling using wooden blocks in his hand, thats when we came to learn of franks situation and gave him a new wheelchair and later through our partners Syna consultancy we donated to him a UTULAV toileting solution to help frank whenever he might want to go to toilet since her mum couldn't afford again to buy pampers every now and then.
Thanks to friends like you for making Franks life much easier and better
Milton was a healthy precocious child who liked to run jump and climb up until the age of 6 that's when he started feeling pain in his joints.
His muscles grew weak and he felt discomfort in his spinal.
Milton's life changed since his entire body felt weak ,he could only sleep on the floor for the whole day, his mother was devastated that her precious son couldn't walk anymore and she couldn't afford to buy him a wheelchair on her meager earnings.
That when WSDC came to learn of Milton's situation and fitted him with a new gift of mobility and that's when Milton's face lit up when he first sat in his new wheelchair "Now i can move around the house on my own "he stated.
In the midst of this all individuals like Milton still needs wheelchairs to help give them renewed opportunities and hope for the future
